Can you walk normally in Heelys? ›

Heelys are shoes with built-in wheels at the heel of the shoe. You can walk or skate in them. They're also called roller shoes or street gliders. Heelys are appealing to many kids because they can switch between walking or running and skating without changing their shoes.

A good thing about the two wheeled Heelys is that you can always take the front wheel out so that you then have a one wheeled Heely! We would recommend going one size up when buying Heelys as they usually come up on the small side.

Heelys are for everyone and there is no age limit when it comes to wearing a pair. Although kids can start wearing Heelys around the age of 4 years old, the style has been heavily adopted by adults of all ages too.

Place your foot against a wall and measure the distance from the wall to the tip of your toes. Manufacturers do not always use the same sizes for shoes. Therefore, we recommend using the foot length to find the correct size.

Many malls and schools have banned Heelys, due to safety concerns. "If sales are booming," says pediatrician Dr. Steven Krug of Chicago Children's Memorial Hospital, "we will see more injuries in our emergency departments. The injury that we fear the most are head injuries."

Heelys experienced solid sales growth in 2005, with $44 million in revenues, a 106 percent increase over 2004. During the first six months of 2006, sales of $44.6 million matched those of the entire previous year.
